Mr. Virgilijus Radvilas from our partner municipality Mažeikiai along with Mr. Osvaldas Endrikas, Head of landfill of Telšiai region took part in the Druskininkų Forum taking place in Druskininkai, Lithuania on 23-24th September.

TitledCircularity. Sustainability. Integrity. Unity. Resilience. Waste management.” the forum aimed to highlight the unprecedented complexity of the problems and challenges we face around these topics.

To help shed some light in how to escape a vicious circle of non-productive conversation leading to confrontations around these topics, event offered as a platform to redirect conversations towards a new approach in communication.  Open, systemic and constructive dialogue among many competencies, hierarchical levels and representatives of interests are encouraged and believed to pave the way towards new forms of leadership and cooperation platforms.

The forum was organised as a “sustainable event”, a concept introduced during the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012 and with roots from the first ‘Green Games’ in Lillehammer, Norway, in 1994. The United Nations define such an event as one that is organised in such a manner so that negatived environmental and social impacts caused directly by the event are reduced. It is also meant to leave a beneficial legacy for the host community and all involved.
