Project information conference in Mažeikiai, Lithuania

On Tuesday, 30 November, partners of the project “Circular Based Waste Management” held a conference at Mažeikiai District Municipality.

Partners shared experiences gained and lessons learned so far in the project about waste sorting and presented future plans. Representatives of the Mažeikiai District Municipality, Telšiai Regional Waste Management Center, Paide Municipality (Estonia), Sumy City Council (Ukraine) and Green Business Norway participated in the meeting-conference.

Welcoming the participants, the Mayor of the Municipality Vidmantas Macevičius drew attention to the importance of disseminating experience in solving the problems of waste recycling relevant to this time and wished the partners success in their work.

Specialists of the municipality and Telšiai Regional Waste Management Center presented the situation of waste collection, sorting and recycling in Telšiai region and Mažeikiai district. Mažeikiai Municipality’s role in the project was also presented which is actively working on the planning and implementation of circular waste management solutions.

The project partners from Sumy, Paide and Green Business Norway offered an overview of their activities in the implementation of the project, sharing knowledge gained towards their individual and common project goals. Partners highlighted the importance of the transnational activities the project promotes with the goal of raising awareness and knowledge on waste management and recycling to the citizens and youth of the three regions.

Partners were joined by representatives of two schools forming such a collaboration: Mažeikiai Kalnėnai Progymnasium and Paide Roosna-Alliku Elementary School which presented the joint project “Friendly to the Earth”, that aims for children to develop skills in waste sorting and recycling.
