ECO Christmas trees in Tirkšliai

On 30th December, partners from Mažeikiai district municipality visited the town of Tirkšliai, in the Telšiai region of Lithuania. Since 2016, the community of Tirkšliai has been very active in environmental projects.

The campaign “We sort, summer” in 2019 is considered among their best achievements, where the community collected around seven tons of waste – the best result among local communities in Lithuania.

For Christmas 2021, Tirkšliai town decided to celebrate by placing around 20 Christmas trees in the town square that were decorated with toys made from secondary waste. Local businesses, neighbours and families, all came together to decorate the trees.

Following this visit, partners from Mažeikiai district municipality have collaborated with Tirkšliai community in organising a visit to Pakruojis manor, where various decorations were made from environmentally friendly materials and old are reuse in gardening.

The Circular Based Waste Management project is funded by Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway through the EEA and Norway Grants Fund for Regional Cooperation.
