Circular waste initiatives by schools

Circular waste management and sustainable development are important concepts for Kalnėnai progymnasium from Mažeikiai, Lithuania.  The school is an active member of the network of environmental schools program and as such is a “Green school” with continuous activities on environmental issues.

For Christmas 2021 the schools decided to create and demonstrate a composition called “Cottages” prepared by class 5 and 6 pupils and technology teachers Jadvyga Martinkienė and Stasys Pauliukas. For this composition, waste and secondary raw materials were collected such as cardboard boxes to decorate the school.

Partners from the CBWM project, Mažeikiai district municipality and Paide Town government will be supporting local schools, Kalnėnai progymnasium and Paide gymnasium, that will work together in bilateral activities related to circular waste management. The activities aim to have a direct educational function on the topic and to also give a positive message to the local populations of Paide and Mažeikiai on principles of circular waste management. Further details on this activity will come as the project develops.
