Tip and staff themselves are very good, always helpful. However the new system of getting a permit for large residential vehicles that won't go under the height barriers and have to use the big recycling building is horrendous, previously an email was received in minutes, you printed it off and away you went. Now though you have to get one sent in the post - these typically take over a week to be received - if at all. Very inefficient and outdated method, not to mention the cost of postage. Come on DBC it's 2024, use emails again. (Of course you can arrange to pick one up at the council if you've time to try and find parking in the town centre.)

Always closed due to "adverse weather". The irony of seeing a tree surgeon up a tree on the drive to the tip but the tip cannot operate in the same weather. If you have social media you may be able to find a post/notice to save yourself the trip but there is no consistency whether there will be a post on social media and if it will be posted before you set off.

The Newton Acyliffe tip has been vetting people's addresses for a few years now because of the number of people coming from Darlington council addresses which probably tells you all you need to know about this place.

I only wish the council accounting team would close for adverse weather and not collect my council tax at the end of the month... funny that seems to never happen.

Why do you say the Tip is open, I've just come back from there and it is closed. I've just looked again on the website and it still says open. Is it so hard to update the website?

Not open till Monday drove as per usual to the shut bin yard it's brilliant Sunday opening times are definitely shut too the public and as follows information about the place being open I'm now a full car in bins

Unreliable. Got there in a lovely sunny day, a bit breezy but not that much. Site was closed "due to adverse weather conditions". Perhaps because it had rained a couple of hours before.

Nothing on the Web site to indicate closure or Google maps. It takes us 15 mins to get there and another to get back. Total waste of time and petrol. And this is not the first time it's happened. Cars were arriving all the time we were there.

No point in going there unless weather is benign all day.

Had a large quantity of old garbage lying around the house recently, so have been making regular trips to the site. The site even accepts building waste at £2 a bag (PVC etc. chargeable, otherwise rubble and soil are free to dispose of), but otherwise recycling is obviously free. It's a pity you can't grab stuff out of the skips that you dump into because there is some fantastic stuff there. Queues can get very long, and parking next to the skips without blocking the marked walkway is difficult but staff are very helpful, telling you where things should go and giving a hand to those who really need it. Skips are clearly labeled Wood, Green Waste, Metal, Cardboard (no plastic here, even tape), furniture and everything else goes in household (apart from appliances and electrical goods, or clothes [which go in the area at the end of the loop at the bottom]) and there are walkways inbetween.

Great drop-off facility for Darlington residents. The majority of staff are very helpful.

Very well run, a few minutes wait and the guys at the tip smiled and gave me a wink and had a definite spring in their steps. In addition the layout is very easy to follow, and the views all around are stunning. Wonderful vistas in all directions with the birds singing beautifully in the trees and the local wildlife playing majestically in the nearby fields.

Highly recommended for a visit and great value as a day out for the kuds
