Gloucester Road Reclamation Centre, known to many simply as the Yard. One of the strange time warp businesses, some thinking it as having a load of junk, others will see it as an absolute treasure trove of hard or nearly impossible things to find. For interior designers, film props hunting, sculptors and other artists, or people just looking for a second hand bargain its a mecca.

This place is amazing, so if you just see junk in such a place, then it's not for you. If you see beyond the junk, and appreciate all the history and beauty in such a place, then it's well worth a visit. The old website is still up, and says it opens at 10.00, but the lovely new owner's business hours are from around midday. We were there today and can't speak highly enough of the guy who is now in charge, he was incredibly helpful and great to do business with. We've been here a few times in the past before it changed hands, although it wasn't such a great experience then, but we'll definitely be returning for another visit soon.

Amazing treasure trove of curious and heritage items from the last century or so. Lamps, furniture, kitchen equipment, garden ornaments, gadgets and a lot more. A really good place for a long, random browse.

I don't normally write reviews, but feel that the service we received here was so bad that I should warn others. After reading the other bad reviews on here, I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and go ahead and order a custom made table. If you're thinking of ignoring the other bad reviews on here - please don't. They're spot on.

We were promised our table by 'Steve' within 2 weeks. However, 7 weeks and many, many increasingly outlandish excuses later we were still without said table. During this time we were promised the table would be ready 5 or 6 times, only to find on arrival the planks of wood still on the floor, untouched. We were actually told at one point that the table was being polished up and to come along in a couple of hours to collect it, only to find when we turned up that as usual the planks were still on the floor! What is the thought process behind such a blatant lie?!

He got progressively more defensive and unpleasant as time went on, despite how reasonable we were being considering the delays and his barely believable excuses. It is understandable that ‘good things take time’ as he liked to say, but this only applies if it is actually being worked on!

Enough was enough when he called my girlfriend an 'annoying little brat' for going in to check on his progress, and we cancelled the order. This was a completely bizarre/unpleasant experience, and a waste of 7 weeks of our time. Please avoid this place at all costs.

(On a side note I don’t wish to tarnish the other employees here with this review – everyone else that we have dealt with here have been very friendly.)

Went in to look for a home desk to work from home, spoke with James who was really friendly and full of ideas. Ended up having and old School Science desk with hairpin legs made up, it looks great and was at a reasonable price. I will be going back to get a new TV stand made to match the desk.

Ordered a table didn't arrive, no phone call. Phone number on receipt didn't work, had to go back to the shop. He didn't remember what we had ordered, there was no written record, then we had to speak to a different carpenter from last time and give the same information again, by which point I had lost my confidence it was going to get made and settled for getting the deposit back. I would avoid using this service for bespoke furniture.

I agree that this can be a treasure trove & a great place to find interesting odd bits & pieces. I've always found staff friendly. II enjoy the quirkiness of the place. Seems refreshingly "uncommercial" in that not money-grabbing or excessively priced. Plenty of bargains.
