The surgery is splendid; the reception staff are friendly, efficient and patient.
The doctors are mostly excellent.
The only issue I have is if I telephone I am put through to Bridport and am inevitably in a queue and finally get to speak to a probably stressed and tired person who just wants to refer me to a telephone consultation.
I haven't needed to see a doctor for almost a year but when I did and spoke to a man on the phone I found him very difficult to understand, English not being his first language, and he had problems understanding me and I had to keep repeating, very slowly, my answers to his questions.
To sum up - Maiden Newton surgery is excellent but since it's been swallowed up by Bridport it's so difficult to see a doctor which is frustrating to say the least.

Review is based on the last couple of interactions that I've had with this surgery. Most recently I completed an econsult, had a timely response, assessment (within an hour) and quick dispensing of the prescribed medications. Couldn't have asked for more.
I appreciate that there was an element of luck based on how busy the surgery was that day.
Staff were friendly, Doctor was professional and helpful.

Having moved from Cornwall where we were lucky to be served by an excellent GP practice, we were concerned that the standards would not be as high. We should not have worried, the Tollerford Practice is actually slightly better. Their checks and monitoring systems are more thorough as is the preventative care. We have always managed to get a same day appointment when it was really necessary, the Dispensary has not failed us and the staff are excellent.

Extremely poor service. No one has responded to emails or phone calls about a perscription which has not been fulfilled. Went to the surgery, had to take a day off to do it as they open after I start work and close before I finish, to then be told it is my fault as they weren't ordered. Pointed out that it is the same stuff month in month out and it is all requested to be filled again the following month when it is all collected.
Run out over the weekend but the impression I get is that they don't care. I will be making a formal complaint tonight as things are just getting worse and worse.

Can't even begin how bad this practice is
Wet toilet paper is better use than this lot
Extremely bad management

Update 15th Dec 2024

I have tried to engage with this surgery and to their credit the people at maiden Newton have improved

Unfortunately it's the main office in Bridport that seem to cause the issues to this location
They have no concept of mental health
I have 2 children high in the spectrum and to be told
'They need to be treated like normal people '
Is disgusting behaviour
This lot should be shut down !!!!!!!

After receiving a response from an e-consult form, my Father walked down only to be turned away. He died the next day. We hold them responsible for his early death.
Since then, they have messed up my Mother’s repeat prescriptions and I have been shocked by the generally rude attitude toward the public. Some serious action needs to be taken here.

For the 5th or 6th time since moving into the area I have just phoned for an appointment and on every occasion I have been offered a same day appointment. I have been promptly referred when necessary, received physio within 2weeks of referral at the surgery, had "wellman" check from the nurse . All done with a professionalism and charm that is most reassuring. The pharmacy service is most convenient and is something to be treasured and not criticised . My experiences , monthly for the last 2 years, has been of a pharmacy service run very well under limiting circumstances , efficient and helpful. I have been blessed with excellent health care throughout my recent life and can , from experience, assure anyone who cares to read this that the Tollerford practice continues to provide an outstanding service to this rural community. Try life in a large town/city to truly see the gem we have here!
