Very disappointed with the way I was dealt with yesterday. Being an Ampthill resident for over 3 years and using this facility many times. Due to moving homes I decided to put some items in a van to throw. I was unaware that due to being in a van I would require a permit to use the tip. As I arrived before I even had a chance to take the van out of reverse and put it in neutral. An employee came directly to my window obstructing me from even getting out of the vehicle (if I wanted to) and asked “license and permit” in an aggressive tone. I got the impression that he suspected that I wouldn’t have this. When I asked what do I need a permit for he straight away said “do you want me to get my manager” obviously I was unaware of this permit requirement having used this tip multiple time over the 3 plus years as a resident. He walked off to get his manager I proceeded to get out of the vehicle with the manager approaching me saying I need a permit “it’s been this way for over x amount of years” I asked if he could provide more info on to why he said to me to check online with no direction whatsoever. This experience in the way I was dealt with in such a harsh and rude manner. I generally left feeling embarrassed, threatened and made to feel as if I was doing something criminal. He even had the cheek to ask where do I live as if providing him with this info would have enabled me to tip on the day. Again I got the assumption that they assumed I was not from the area and was trying to get rid of waste in a random tip. Having had a look on the website regarding this permit it states a list of vehicles including cars requiring a permit. Unless you are disposing of a fridge/freezer. (The contents of our van was never asked/checked.) My previous visits this was never asked for and I did not observe them asking anyone else for a permit before tipping. Extremely disappointed with the service and will be making a formal complaint.

Very rude and lazy staff! Just stand there watching people. An old man that could barely walk asked where something should go and they just said down there, didn't even offer to help him. Thankfully some customers know how to be helpful!

There were staff there and as a disabled user they would help. They watched me struggle with a walking stick and one actually got in my way as I was walking with a huge box. Didnt offer to help at all. Very bad experience.

Went today with a very heavy broken down sofa. Asked for assistance as it says on their shirts but was met with a very offhand manner. Had to struggle with it on my own.

Why are there any restrictions at Central Beds tidy tips. I've just been today and every other bay is blocked off for no reason. I appreciate that at the height of the lockdown it was needed but the distancing rules at the tip - or the lack of them make the booking procedure nonsensical, especially during the week. There could be merit in keeping the booking process for weekends but those who are working during the week will never get a look-in. Rant over 👍

Years ago as a kid my parents always told me “your room looks like a tip“. I didn’t realise it at the time, but obviously that meant well organised, charming and helpful staff, and easy to use.
