Aston Clinton Household Recycling Centre

Met with hostile angry staff (one was the ‘manger’ apparently) because even though I pay my tax to BCC and live in Bucks and took proof of who I pay Council tax to, my post code address is in Herts because of my sorting office address. This I was informed excludes me from using the Aston Clinton tip (that I pay for) and I was refused entry - very aggressively. I complained to BCC via online form 3 weeks ago but surprise surprise I’ve received no response.

It is difficult to work out what items go where as you enter the centre. There is some signage but it is too small to take in as you drive by and you can miss important information. Although the staff are helpful they do not seem to be sure of where certain things should be deposited. We found out too late that we had put some items in the wrong skip or storage container.

I had the displeasure of going here today to throw away some rotten railway sleepers from an old raised flower bed in our garden. On arrival, I was asked what I had and promptly told them rotten railway sleepers and was guided to the correct skip to throw them into. After throwing the first few in the skip, I was approached by one of the workers who said that chucking away railway sleepers had to be paid for. I told him that I was not told this at the entrance, only to then be met with the reaction "Oh, he's an agency worker"! I then said, that's not really my problem though is it. I was then met with immediate aggression and was asked if I was refusing to pay!? Thus, implying it was my fault for not knowing I had to pay to throw away these items. I did ultimately pay after I was threatened with having my registration plate reported to the council, and then had the joy of paying nearly £4 per railway sleeper. In some ways, I can understand why those working at this site may be frustrated since I suspect they don't want to enforce the council's moronic and inexplicably high charges anymore than I wish to pay for them. That said, I certainly don't expect to be met with aggression and threats when the error has been caused by someone working there (agency or otherwise) and not by me. As an aside, Bucks Council's policy on waste disposal and their excessive charges for chucking away some items is completely backwards, but seems to be just another example of their never ending effort to make this area an increasingly difficult and unpleasant place to live in. Indeed, when openly trying to tackle fly tipping, the one thing you would expect the council NOT to do is to begin charging for waste disposal by residential users and, yet, here we are. Well done Bucks CC, well done!

Just been to tip this morning, cars ahead not asked for id, I was asked for proof of address, handed my driving license over, was told sorry you live in Tring you can not come here. Actually we live in Marsworth (Buckinghamshire village). Please educate your staff on Buckinghamshire villages and the fact postal address not necessarily your county. Was very short with me and wouldn't listen to what I was trying to explain. Been using this tip since it opened never had an issue before this. Maybe some training on what villages are in Buckinghamshire may help the staff.

It's well organized but tiresome to have to explain to the operatives what you're dumping and that you live locally. There's a good reuse shop which you can donate or buy items from

I can't rate the lady who works at the 'Aston Clinton Recycling Centre' shop highly enough. When preparing to host my Ukrainian guests she was extremely helpful sorting the majority of items I needed. She is very friendly and charged me a reasonable price. They have a wide variety of stock there, but obviously it can get very busy... Thank you once again.

I was here the other week as normally use the local Aylesbury Tip However, I would like to take this opportunity to give big thanks and bring attention to a member of staff. Rude, grumpy, unhelpful. They’d make great postmen at the Aylesbury sorting office if they wished to have another career. So unhelpful and miserable I just put rubbish in bin bags and dump them wherever I like regardless of which skip they should be put in. Screw ‘em.
