To be able to dispose of waste here you need to be a resident of Hartlepool.
You have to pre book an appointment to get a "permit" to allow you to do so too.

I've disposed of general waste a few times, using the online service to do so (book). I feel the process is a little complicated, and I don't particularly rate the 5-minute appointment slots. If you're not 5 minutes on either side of your alloted time, you're risking being turned away.

You usually have to queue to enter, which occasionally can be dangerous. Spilling out onto the main road. Then you speak to a man who stands by a cabin by the entrance. You're then made to queue a little bit further in where another worker will ask you what you're disposing of.

You're not helped in any way to unload your rubbish (pre pandemic you were).

You're kind of made to feel like you're an inconvenience, and sometimes you're watched closely.

You don't have to show your "permit" (in my case, an email confirmation), although I am sure you're identified by your registration plate.

Can sometimes be closed due to high winds. If this happens, the website doesn't update, and at weekends, there's no telephone confirmation.
As a result of this I once had a car full of waste for 2 days, I had re booked another appointment but the worker informed me I didn't need to do that I should have just returned at the earliest opportunity. Again, the website doesn't make that clear.

Fly tipping in the town is a big problem, and judging off my own personal experiences with this process, it's easy to see why. A little bit of common sense is needed, and the ordering system needs a complete overhaul. So does the traffic management.

Just been here to drop some carpet off there was a man on the side of general waste and he came straight over and helped me get it out of my car how kind and what an asset to your company. Thank you so much

Everything went smoothly but why do you have to make an appointment still. Only opens from Wednesday to Sunday. Workers there are great , pity other council workers are not.

As many know the appointment system is so wrong! But it will get busier as people who now have to pay for thier garden waste to be collected is now only collected once a month, which is what I mainly had, along with some plastic.
So how come the council want us to put out our plastic for recycling, but they don’t have a skip for plastic at the recycling centre It goes in general waste……straight into landfills?
