Maresfield Household Waste Recycling Site

Having recently moved to East Sussex I visited the Recycling Centre in Maresfield today. The facility is well organised with clear signage plus the friendly and knowledgeable staff are available to help with any questions or heavy lifting. In particular the young man today helped carry several heavy ceramic tiles and paint pots to the correct recycling area. Thank you to all the team :-)

Four members of staff standing watching people struggling with items to lift over the edge of the containers. Not one of them offered to help. At one point they turned their backs when someone asked for assistance. It was a kind member of the public that helped. Absolutely appalling behaviour. What exactly is their role if four of them stand chatting. Three trips on Saturday and none of the occasions did any of them help anyone there.

I visited the tip today and can’t praise the staff enough. They couldn’t have been more helpful, cheerful or polite. In amongst my rubbish I had a very heavy, bulky item and the lovely chap just took it out of the car and disposed of it for me. Great service! Thank you.

Everytime ive come to the site its been lovely, minimal waiting times to park up and unload. The site looks clean and clear as can be for a recycling centre. If asked the staff are always happy to help weather that is showing where items should go or carrying items . I cant fault them one bit. Carry on the good work!

Friendly staff but they never help, even if there are quite a few of them standing around. They ignore you even if people are struggling! Not good enough!

If your vehicle is a van be prepared to be treated like a second class citizen. Take ID. I was refused entry on the basis that ID was required and it's on the website. The attitude of the staff is typical of those who have the advantage of authority without accountability. An understanding that we are customers not an irritation, and that they are service providers, would help. Prior to this last visit I have always got on well with the staff. The new regulations have put them in a position which I suspect they have not been trained for. I will only return out of necessity.

Always at least an hour wait. Not fit for purpose. The design of the facility is such that you have to enter into a queue which you can’t leave just so you can see that you’ll be stuck there for an hour. You’re kept trapped and told that you mustn’t reverse out! I would travel a much greater distance to avoid this.
