Had a severe ear infection and was in a lot of pain over the weekend. Tried online to book an appointment. But at weekends the service is not available.
I arrived at the surgery at 09:00 on Monday morning and after ringing the bell to get a receptionist to answer and in extreme pain,I was told quit brusquely I could not see a doctor as it was not a "drop in " clinic, and I would have to make an appointment online.
After trying once again using my mobile phone the online system was still not working.
After some time I eventually got to see a doctor at the "Urgent Care Unit" at Wansbeck Hospital by which time my ear was so bad I was referred to the ENT clinic at the Freeman Hospital and unfortunately could not be seen until the next day.
After another sleepless night when the doctor did finally see me she told me I should have been there a lot sooner!
Just not good enough!

Dr come and go and I've never had a fault.they have always always been fantastic their caring, hard working, very helpful even when u just need. Advice and u can always take to them. Tbe mental health team a also find fantastic when ave needed them tbey have always responded and been there. Receptionists have always been fantastic friendly helpful, and tbe nurses have always been great also so I can not fund. One thing to say bad. About all these. Staff.a read some of tbe comments about some one commented terrible drs a find that totally wrong from what ave. Experienced during my yrs being A patient. Ave always found the drs,Receptionists, mental health, physios fantastic and we would never change practice ever a think all staff deserve and award dor the work and caring they do.ive found am able to actually finally open up and talk knowing ad get the best help and advice from the gables. Drs and staff I give them 1,000% for all these. Staff do but patience. Needs to understand were not the only patience for apps they have thousands of patients and just so many slots call app slots and face to face this is not our drs faults or staff tbey have to follow the NHS guide lines and to me am 1,000% happy with what these drs, nurse, mental health, physios, ect do but please bare in mind THEY ARE NOT MIRICLE WORKERS tbey do their very best to serve. And give care to their patience,
Wendy Hart

I have always had a positive experience at The Gables, for any issue that I have contacted them about.
This morning was no exception. I attended for a routine smear with Dawn. She was perfect, put me straight at ease, chatted throughout, explained the procedure, made sure my dignity was maintained throughout and the procedure was comfortable and relaxed.
If every smear were carried out with that level of care and professionalism, there would be no issues getting people to attend.
Thank you Dawn.

I rang for a simple GP appointment for my son, which is now a difficult task as I was informed that all appointments must be done online . I explained that my hands were numb, and I was told, well, your son can do it in his lunchtime.
The online form didn't work, no help again from receptionist, who declared it was fine from their end . Eventually, get an appointment after trying all day, and guess what , it's not at a convenient time .
A simple phone call would have taken less than 3 minutes . I know these systems are meant to help run everything more efficiently, but they don't, and the staff don't listen and don't help on principle . Very disappointed and very disappointed with the staff . 😞

Having rang earlier in the week to make an annual asthma review with the practice nurse as requested in a letter notification. I rang next day to make the appointment after waiting 38 minutes before getting a receptionist I was advised to ring back? It was claimed no appointments were released for the practice nurse. Rang back this afternoon and kept on hold 45 minutes before my call was then dropped by the practice. Totally unacceptable!

Dr's are fine, when you can actually get to speak to one. Can't book appointments on the phone, forced to use website to book, which is not straight forward. Receptionists are clearly instructed to put procedure before patient care.

I really don't know why its ok for people to be rude! Staff are trying their best and have to deal with less than polite individuals. NHS bashing seems to be a national passtime. So I will redress the balance: I am a fairly new patient. I have been so impressed at how polite, professional, knowledgeable, kind and caring all of the staff are. They are working in difficult and demanding circumstances and do their best. I, for one, am a grateful patient. Thank you. I think you're all great.

After weeks of trying to get a face to face appointment I am now forced to accept only a telephone appointment. Good luck on looking at the issue by phone! I have already had issues getting to be sorted for a back scan, good job my physio helped me, taken over a year to get sorted due to an initial appointment by a non doctor that it was fine. This place has really gone down hill additional you no longer get given your test results..... Time to change practice
