Having used the Malden centre since I was a child it has always been a community based venue. I found Mohammed at the reception most helpful with bookings very polite and professional. The website could be clearer about how to book as sometimes slots are not showing.

The staff who work on the reception desk are really lovely, but unfortunately for me that's the only plus.

They pack people in like sardines in the 'free swim' time, so it's impossible to take babies/toddlers in as you're constantly getting kicked and splashed by older kids (not their fault, but it seems bizarre when the much larger pool is virtually empty and everyone is crammed in the little one?)

The changing rooms are quite dirty (clumps of hair everywhere) and it's not overly clear where to leave things like prams etc.

On my first visit, I got yelled at for bringing a pram in the wrong area instead of being politely told to leave it outside..

We visited New Malden Centre with the intention of joining, as we were looking for a place to bring our 2-year-old for swimming. We booked a 3:00 PM slot in advance but were given almost no information about how things work upon arrival.

When we went to the pool area, we were approached by a swimming instructor named Melissa who, instead of calmly explaining the situation, immediately started yelling—at us, the lifeguard, and in the presence of our toddler. Apparently, a swim lesson was still going on (which we were not told), but there was absolutely no reason for her aggressive and unprofessional behaviour.

When I tried to raise the issue with the front desk,—they just told me to send an email. Melissa later approached us again, but showed no accountability for how she acted. No apology, no explanation—just complete dismissal of her earlier outburst.

It’s incredibly concerning that someone like this is allowed to work with children. Based on her behaviour, I wouldn’t trust her around my child even if I were paid to. She was rude, confrontational, and completely ruined what was supposed to be a welcoming experience.

We were seriously considering joining the centre, but after this experience, we absolutely will not be. A real shame—this could have been a great facility for families, but instead we left feeling upset, unwelcome, and disrespected

The reception desk staff are very polite and helpful. Anita who is a fitness instructor working at the centre demonstrated unprofessional and rude behaviour when she shouted at me when I accidentally entered the studio room before the current class had ended. Unacceptable and very disappointing behaviour.

There are too many members for the number of classes on offer. Unless you book dead on time you end up on a waiting list and end up not being able to go to any ofnthe classes. Staff can be heard arguing and shouting at each other from outside the building from their staff room.

My son enjoys his swimming lessons here and has a great teacher that is regularly with the class. Getting a space can be extremely difficult and I don't think it is fair that when they reach the standard to go to the next level, current swimmers are not giving priority and may have to wait a long time to go to next stage as anyone can claim any spot when one eventually becomes available. Getting a space is a lottery when you search on the website. A few parents have mentioned this to managers and reception as a problem, but still no response. Disappointing

I've been here a few times with my wife and toddler, to use the training pool - the pool itself was ok, not great but not terrible, but the changing facilities are inexcusable. Dirty, plainly unhygienic (every time we've been, which was on Tuesday mornings, it smelt strongly of faecal matter) and you can see it's just uncared for. Tried to report this but there is always a queue for the one person at reception so I just gave up. Sadly, we won't be returning until things are reported to have improved, and this will need to include investment in more staff (to at least keep the cleanliness monitored and maintained) as well as in the physical aspects of the changing facilities themselves.

I’ve been going to Malden Centre Gym for a while now, and it’s easily one of the best gyms in the area. The equipment is well maintained, the facilities are always clean, and there’s a great mix of machines and free weights to suit all fitness levels.

What really makes this gym stand out, though, is the staff. Everyone is super friendly, knowledgeable, and always willing to help. Whether you’re new to the gym or experienced, the team is always there to offer guidance and support. The fitness manager, in particular, does an amazing job ensuring a welcoming and motivating atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a gym with a great vibe, excellent facilities, and staff who genuinely care about your fitness journey, Malden Centre Gym is the place to be!
Highly recommend.
