Wonderful business with passionate amd helpful people.

Loads of reclaimed wood, all shapes and sizes, they ha e finished pieces too, some gorgeous oiled and sealed reclaimed scaffold boards, cute little planters/crates, coffee bags, shelf hooks and screws- we will definelty be back as it is an amazing place to have...we saved money not buying new and we had the thrill of saving the Earth, reusing what is already there and got some craft projects to work on! 👍

Parking: There is a small amount of parking at the back, beware of double yellows and the 'private land' near the christian care home, it is only the spaces with wood near it, around 4 spaces total- we nearly got caught out.

Main entrance NOT wheelchair accessible. Entrance round back makes the upstairs accessible so can access part of the shop. Fortunately, my partner was able to go in for me and get what we needed. Otherwise great shop! Good prices and range of stock, plus friendly, helpful staff who offered to help if needed. Would definitely recommend, just be aware if you are a wheelchair user or can't use steps you won't be able to access part of the shop independently.

Really helpful, knowledge staff. Supplied a rustic shelf cut to size. They also recommended great brackets. I would highly recommend these guys.

Rick was a complete icon, made a woodworker out of me despite my complete lack of skills and patience! I went in with half an idea for a wooden frame I wanted to build and he helped it come to fruition by helping me with drawings, specifications and supplementing my general lack of knowledge. What a cracking place! Below shows Rick’s drawings and the final result of my build. I take no credit !

If you haven't been to this place yet, drop in soon, it is special, a true community based social enterprise that benefits everyone it reaches. The stock always offers the potential of something unique, as they're selling reclaimed wood, but there is also generally a reliable level of stock for your basic timber needs, including a decent range of fixtures and fittings (also reclaimed), as well as a range of art and furniture, made in house. They also have a pretty good stock of bits and bobs going spare that are not sellable. In terms of the service to community, they employ people or provide decent internships for students and graduates, as well as opportunities to explore and develop their practice. As a customer I know that if I have an idea I want to float l or some technical questions, there is little point in me going to one of the big name stores as they are just moving and selling stock, with no passion for the work or skill. At The Wood Store you will speak to someone who works with wood every day and has a background in the arts or trades associated with woodwork. See the pic for the set of drawers I built with their wood and support in terms of expertise and advice. 🙂

Brought a second set of shelves to match the ones we brought 5 years ago and I asked for a quick turnaround so that they could get put up on the kitchen with everything else, they didn't disappoint!

Fantastic shop.Very friendly helpful owner, excellent value, local Brighton business. We bought a small side table made from recycled scaffold planks, which looks superb in our lounge. We will also regularly return for firewood and kindling and some window boxes we have our eye on. Highly recommended.
