A lovely small town in the middle of highlands. A must stop before adventuring in the north as is one of the latest point where you can make some groceries. I also had one of the best ice cream in my life here!

A Review of Ullapool Town
Nestled on the shores of Loch Broom in the Scottish Highlands, Ullapool is a picturesque fishing village that feels like a love letter to Scotland’s rugged charm. With its whitewashed cottages, bustling harbor, and dramatic backdrop of An Teallach and Beinn Ghobhlach, this vibrant town of about 1,500 residents is a gateway to the Northwest Highlands’ wild beauty.
I spent a weekend wandering Ullapool’s compact streets, enchanted by its blend of authenticity and accessibility. The harbor is the heart of the town, alive with fishing boats and ferries to the Outer Hebrides. The Ullapool Museum, housed in a historic church, offered fascinating insights into the area’s crofting and fishing heritage (rated 4.5/5 on Tripadvisor). Dining at The Ceilidh Place was a highlight—fresh seafood chowder paired with live folk music created an unforgettable evening . Outdoor enthusiasts will love the Ullapool Hill walk, a 2.5-mile trail with panoramic loch views.
Shops like The Captain’s Table and local markets brim with artisanal crafts and smoked fish, though some note prices reflect the tourist draw. Summer festivals, like Loopallu (pre-2019), add vibrancy, though parking can be tight during peak season. Ullapool’s warm community, stunning scenery, and cultural richness make it a must-visit Highland gem.

Sleepy town. Very nice people. Reasonably priced souvenirs and liquor. Really not much to do here as a tourist
