The city of Sumy is the administrative center of the Sumy Region which is located in the north-east of Ukraine. The city was founded in 1655. It is a modern city, enchanted by the slight touch of antiquity. The urban population today is about 265 thousand people. Sumy is the regional center of Ukraine possessing significant economic, scientific and cultural potential.

Sumy City is known as an industrial center with industries such as machine building, metalworking, chemical and petrochemical, food, construction materials manufacturing, forest and woodworking are the most developed ones. Among the products produced by Sumy enterprises one can find equipment for the oil and gas and chemical sectors, pumps, machines and means for automation, fertilizers, paint and varnish production, building materials, furniture etc.

The city has a whole network of modern higher education and vocational schools, in which students from more than 50 countries study.
